Georgia Dealers Take Their Priorities to Capitol Hill

GIADA joined independent automobile dealers from across the country in Washington, D.C., for NIADA’s 2026 National Policy Conference, bringing Georgia dealers’ concerns directly to congressional offices.

Held September 28–29 at the Willard InterContinental, the annual conference combined policy briefings with face-to-face meetings on Capitol Hill. The first day focused on education, regulatory updates and preparation for congressional visits. On the second day, dealer delegations met with House and Senate offices to discuss issues affecting independent dealerships and their customers.

For Georgia’s delegation, those conversations centered on four GIADA priorities:

  • Fair Credit Reporting Act reform: Modernizing the FCRA liability framework, including limits on statutory damages and attorneys’ fees, while preserving consumer protections.
  • Catalytic converter theft: Supporting a national approach to improve transaction traceability and help law enforcement address interstate trafficking.
  • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau reform: Advocating for greater regulatory clarity, transparency and consistency.
  • Right to repair: Protecting access to diagnostic data, repair tools, software and aftermarket parts that independent dealers need to service and recondition vehicles.

GIADA’s materials shared with congressional offices emphasized practical, balanced policies that protect consumers, strengthen accountability and help keep vehicles affordable. These priorities also aligned with NIADA’s coordinated national advocacy agenda, giving dealers a shared focus while allowing each delegation to explain the impact on businesses and customers in its home state.

For GIADA, the conference provided an opportunity to connect federal policy discussions with the everyday realities of operating an independent dealership in Georgia. Direct conversations allowed dealers to explain their challenges, share their experiences and make the case for workable solutions.

Thank you to the GIADA leaders and dealers who traveled to Washington to represent our industry. Their participation helps ensure Georgia’s independent dealers have a voice in the decisions shaping their businesses and the customers they serve.
