The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System is designed to protect consumers from unsafe vehicles and to keep stolen vehicles from being resold. NMVTIS is also a tool that assists states and law enforcement in deterring and preventing title fraud and other crimes. NMVTIS is used to access vehicle history information. Data available includes Title Data, Brand History, Odometer Reading and Total Loss & Salvage History.
There has been a lot of concern about the Review title status. Review title status on a vehicle inquiry report usually means there is a NMVTIS hold. The hold can only be removed from DOR. DOR is noticing a lot of dealerships are not entering the correct title numbers. They are entering in the document or control numbers. DOR is having to revise the ETR record and update the title number to release the hold. This issue accounts for over 25,000 NMVTIS holds and is a very slow process clearing these issues up.
It is very important that the correct out of state title number is entered in the ETR system when titling a vehicle with an out of state title. If the correct title number is not entered, this will cause a NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Titling Information System) hold to be placed against the title record, as it appears that the incorrect title was presented for titling. This hold will delay the title being sent to your customer or lien holder. The title will be placed in Review status and will not be printed until the discrepancy is resolved. The NMVTIS Title Reference Chart is located on our website under the Resources Tab in Dealer Info Links to ensure the correct out of state title number is entered to prevent a NMVTIS hold.
Another BIG Issue…
If you are using a DMS System, please make sure the Lien Holder Information in your DMS matches your ETR Vendor Records.
The mileage on the MV1 MUST MATCH all the other paperwork and your cover sheet. If you are exempting the miles, it must reflect exempt on all your paperwork.
Last but not Least…
Verify your buyer’s address at TIME OF SALE and make any necessary changes within your ETR System.
I understand how challenging these last few months have been for every dealer in Georgia. Independent and franchise dealers have had many changes and, to say the least, had their patience tested to the MAX! Please know that GIADA has done everything possible to help with issues when we could. The GIADA lobbyist, officers and ETR vendors have had multiple meetings with the state expressing our concerns.
DRIVES was a HUGE conversion for Georgia, but a necessary one. GRATIS was not able to receive or hold information needed. Please try to continue to be patient and work with us. If you are a member, don’t hesitate to call with problems. I have title experts here to help you navigate through the complex issues.
Please don’t forget to renew your membership. Understand we can’t always change the inevitable, but we do strive to help you to the best of our abilities and will continue to do so for all our members.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding.
